Neuroscience Network Düsseldorf
The Neuroscience Network Düsseldorf is a collaborative research network in which basic and clinical neuroscientists from the Heinrich Heine University (HHU) Düsseldorf, the Research Centre Jülich, and the IUF - Leibniz Research Institute for Environmental Medicine Düsseldorf work together in multidisciplinary projects ranging from basic brain research to translational and clinical neuroscience.
A particular focus is placed on the investigation of disease-associated pathomechanisms in common diseases of the central nervous system, in particular multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases, brain tumours, traumatic brain and spinal cord injury, and metabolic encephalopathies. These diseases constitute a major medical problem in our society and pose enormous socio-economic challenges. Thus, the common research aim of the participating groups is to improve the understanding of molecular, cellular and systemic mechanisms causing these diseases, and to translate novel experimental findings into better diagnostic tools and more effective therapies.
In addition, excellent research training opportunities for junior researchers from both medicine and the natural sciences are offered, including structured programmes that provide master students, as well as doctoral and postdoctoral researchers with the instruction, research experience and mentoring they need to become future leaders in disease-related neuroscience research.
