Research Interest

Structure and function of ionotropic receptors in the context of behavioral state. We study the cellular and molecular basis of physiological and pathophysiological processes in the brain, in particular the hypothalamic regulation of sleep and waking, energy administration and motivation. Electrophysiological, molecular biological and histochemical methods reveal the functional correlates of altered gene expression, synaptic plasticity and learning as well as aging in selected cell populations of hypothalamus, hippocampus and basal ganglia in (transgenic) rodents.
